Family outings and day trips are a wonderful way for parents and children to bond while educating children about the vast world around them. Studies have shown that they are also a very healthy way of furthering a child’s development. Since many of us are limited on the number of vacation days that we can take by work and restricted on the extravagance of those vacations by our budgets, regular day trips can be a wonderful substitute or supplement to family vacations. Lucky for us, living in Mt. PLeasant means that we have plenty of options for fun family outings within a convenient driving distance. In today’s post, I am sharing an eclectic list of ideas to help your family learn to love our area and grow closer together without spending a fortune or taking time off from work.
1. Perfectly Pleasant Parks & Landmarks
I don’t know about you but one of my favorite things about living in Mt. Pleasant is that we have so many parks and historical sites to explore! While our various historic landmarks are great for educating children about where they live and our local history our parks are a fun way of blowing off steam. For something on the relaxing side, I suggest packing a picnic along with something for entertainment like a book or a ball you can play with when not eating. Try to ban devices if you can though to make the most of this special time that is intended to bring you closer.
2. Soak Up The Sun At Splash Island Water Park
As you know, it sure can get hot here in the Summer months. One of our favorite ways to cool off is a fun family trip to Splash Island Water Park. Kids obviously love waterparks and they are a great way for them to get some exercise without overheating. You can even make a day of it with plenty of food options while you are there. The attractions include:
- 200-foot body flume (48’ minimum height)
- 16-foot otter slide (30’ minimum height)
- Sprays, geysers, and raindrop waterfalls
- Cyclone swirling water ride
- Activity pool
- Lifeguards
- Concessions
- Restrooms
- Shower/changing area
- Locker rentals
- Lounge chairs
One of the coolest things about the eco-tours and fishing charters that are offered throughout our beloved barrier islands is that the Winter is actually one of the best times to go! This is the time of year that the water transforms into that stunning aqua color and pods of dolphins can be spotted jumping and playing frequently. This is a great way to have a blast as a family while also educating the kids on the local environment and the importance of conservation at the same time. They also feature a variety of family-friendly activities throughout the year so be sure to check those out as well!
4. Work Up A Sweat At Wild Blue Ropes
For families in search of some adventure, head out to the Wild Blue Ropes Adventure Course. The ropes course is a phenomenal way to break out of your comfort zone a bit and test yourself while bonding together as a family. In fact, it is touted as the ultimate team-building experience. They have several different courses designed to appeal to various skill levels and comfort zones so no worries there.
What kid doesn’t love to jump and play on a trampoline?! Trampoline parks have become one of the biggest trends sweeping the country and inspiring families to jump, bounce, and play for hours on end. Not only are they a cool way to get out and do something different together but they provide big-time exercise benefits too. Even an hour or two at Sky Zone is more than enough to tucker out your kids but beware they’re likely to ask to return again and again.
