Fun Family Day Trips Around Mt. Pleasant

temp-post-image

As parents. It can be hard enough as it is just to hold it all together in our day-to-day lives. Balancing work, relationships, self-care, and family can be so overwhelming that it becomes harder and harder to create meaningful memories with the kids. One of the easiest ways to create moments and memories as a family is to start planning more day trips to local attractions. I love the idea of scheduling a day trip once a month or at least once a quarter so we can unplug from our phones and engage with one another in a way that brings us more joy and appreciation for where we live. With that in mind, I have assembled this list of fun family day trip ideas around Mount Pleasant.

Visit The Zoo

Just a brisk 45 minute drive away there is an all around fantastic little zoo in Bee City appropriately named the Bee City Zoo. Obviously, a trip to the zoo is always a no-brainer for entertaining and educating the kids. I also love that it is an affordable outing with tickets running about $12 and annual memberships only $95 for those that know they will be attending at least a few times per year. If you haven’t already, I also really recommend you try one of their animal encounters where you can spend anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour with either a raccoon, Lemur, Kangaroo, Joey the Spider Monkey or Gertrude the all too lovable sloth. Your kids will be beside themselves with excitement!

Charles Towne Landing

One of my favorite of our many gorgeous local parks is Charles Towne Landing. It sits on a marshy point along the Ashley River and words just can’t do this place justice. Beyond that though it can also be really interesting due to its history and the exhibits that teach you about the history of the site. While there, you can also board and tour the Adventure, Charleston's only 17th-century replica sailing ship, see cannons fired, or take a peek at otters, bears, bison and more at the Animal Forest natural habitat zoo. Additionally, there are over 80 acres of gardens to enjoy. It truly is a magical place!

Blackbeard’s Cove Family Fun Park

Desperate to get the kids out of the house for some good old fashioned fun? You simply must hit Blackbeard’s Cove Family Fun Park. This is definitely a fan favorite among the younger kids with a long list of fun activities that are sure to both thrill them and exhaust them. Some of the attractions include paintball, go-karts, jump land, not one but two mini golf courses, over 70 arcade games, gemstone mining, a climbing wall, and an indoor playground.

Blueberry Picking At Blue Pearl Farm

In McClellanville there is an absolutely delightful little blueberry farm (Blue Pearl Farm) where you can go blueberry picking. We love doing this, especially during opening weekend where they often feature entertainment. For example, last year they had live bluegrass and it really was awesome. After you’re done picking berries and have returned home, you can finish the day by baking a blueberry pie, muffins, scones, or whatever you wish with your harvest.
